Coaching begins about one month (minimally) following the initial training continuing for 10 months. Coaching is usually a one hour session, once or twice a month in which direct staff and/or supervisors receive coaching on applications of the 3-5-7 Model®.

Coaching is a type of consultation and is critical to the success of the 3-5-7 Model® Program. The purpose of coaching is to ensure that concepts learned in the training environment are integrated into practice and transfer of learning is supported through ongoing feedback to promote practice change and prevent “practice drift” by supporting system regulation toward a “new normal”—new “homeostasis. During coaching sessions our associates provide guidance and promote deeper learning for your staff who have attended training.

Development of a coaching plan occurs in communication with supervisors and key team members. Frequently specific examples from case presentations and debriefings are used as the platform for discussions. Coaching with regular frequency allows us to build practice relationships with the organization that will support our ability to help staff address practice issues and integrate and implement the 3-5-7 Model®. Regular 3-5-7 Model® coaching has been noted to reduce stress and increase job satisfaction and provides motivation when workers/supervisors are facing depleted professional energy. The most effective coaching is facilitated by an active partnership between the organization and Darla L. Henry & Associates.

Coaching sessions provide support in the following areas:

  • Feedback regarding fidelity of 3-5-7 Model®

  • Problem solving assistance, feedback related to decision making

  • Acquisition of new skills/strategies

  • Sounding board for ideas, handling stress, or seeking balance between personal and professional life

  • Reduce practice drift associated with bringing a new practice into organizations

  • Objective observation of readiness for practice change

Important considerations in the coaching development process:

  • To best utilize our time together an agenda and/or 3-5-7 Model® Case Consultation form is requested from participants 3-5 days prior to coaching sessions.

    • Smaller groups have been found to:

    • enhance relationship building

    • allow for participants’ specific implementation/barriers/application and practice issues to be addressed

    • encourage participation

    • improve productivity

    • increase ability to ensure fidelity to the model

  • Coaching is provided through web-based videoconferencing technology

    • Since travel makes in person coaching costly, we provide web-based videoconferencing technologies that allows us sit together in a virtual room.

    • While not as ideal as an in-person meeting, we find the visual and audio connection to be far more effective than only an audio connection.

  • A minimum of 10 hours of coaching within 11 months of initial training is prescribed

    • We encourage the first call to begin within 4 weeks of the training to take advantage of the momentum that develops in training.
